A Literary Magazine - By Veterans, For Veterans.

Who we are
The Washington Elm stands in Cambridge Commons in Massachusetts. It was a gathering place, and the oft-cited legend holds that it is where General George Washington took command of his Army in 1775.

The elm has long been a symbol of American strength - regularly living for hundreds of years, they are imposing in stature, resilient against the elements, and steadfast in service. They provide shade, comfort, and familiarity to all who stand beneath them.

The American Elm Literary Magazine is here as a gathering place for American veterans who served during the Global War on Terrorism. We publish primarily non-fiction stories from Marines, Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Coast Guardsmen, though we are also open to fiction and poetry (provided they meet the theme.)

We are looking for stories about your service - not just of war, though this will be a recurring theme - but of camaraderie, loyalty, resilience, failure, and victory. We will call for stories that are funny, heartbreaking, uplifting, and life-changing, often in ways that only other veterans will understand. There's no need to filter here - we speak your language.
So come, storytellers, and gather here beneath The American Elm. We are waiting for you.
